Hi

Please can someone tell me how to install USB 2.0 on Windows XP Professional, therefore supporting EHCI host controllers, without installing Service Pack 1? I recently bought a new motherboard with USB 2.0, but need to have the SP1 installed in order to get USB 2.0 to work.. so is there any other alternative? If you have a reply, please email me instead of posting on the newsgroup: (e-mail address removed)

Thank you in advance
David

You really need help with your common sense. Your posted subject is likely
to cause exactly the opposite effect to that expected. People really do get
brassed off when they perceive that someone is 'overstating' their own level
of importance.

Anyway - what's your issue with XP SP1 - perhaps your XP install is not
valid and is refusing to run under SP1? I've had SP1 installed for some
time and I can tell you that it's fixed a lot of stability issues I had with
the bare Windows XP.

Chris.

You can install XP Pro from your CD and then immediately install SP1 when it
is done and have access to your USB devices when SP1 is finished installing.

Alternatively, you could slipstream SP1 into the original distribution and
burn a new cd containing the updates--

just fine on your computer before SP1 is installed and you will be able to
install the service pack

Hi,

Asked here, answered here.

Either install SP1 or look for the appropriate drivers from the motherboard
manufacturer (whom I suspect will tell you to install SP1).

Why the hesitation about installing SP1?

I believe he's posted this question, worded differently in the past, in
essence asking if he can just download USB 2.0 support as opposed to all of
SP1. The answer is no. Though, as I recall, if your device has USB 2.0
drivers of it's own, it should work. As I recall, I had my USB 2.0 hub
prior to SP1 being released and I just installed the manufacturer supplied
drivers for the hub something I no longer have to do since installing SP1.
Hence, if he has no desire to install SP1, I believe he only needs to check
to be sure a USB 2.0 device has its own drivers or if the manufacturer
specifies SP1 must be installed...in which case, he'd need SP1 for that
specific device.

I don't recall if there was a patch at Windows update that covered this but
he might check that as well.

Add-on drivers will link particuilar hardware to XP's built-in USB 2.0
support, but that built-in support is part of SP1.

Let's see:

1) You DEMAND help as "The most urgent message ever postsed"
- no subject line detail
- in newsgroups where ppl have data loss and unbootable PCs

2) You want a personal email because you can't be bothered to
come back to read replies?

Is the reason you want to avoid SP1 is becuse your XP relies on a
particular product key SP1 refuses to install on?

Wow!! What an arrrogant, self-important son of a bitch you are! You
think your measly USB2.0 issue is more important then problems accessing
important work related files? Or, having thier identity stolen by some
hacker???

Also, "If you have a reply, please email me instead of posting on the
newsgroup:"??? Do you think you're the only one that has this issue??
Why should we e-mail a reply to you rather then posting it here. Where
others can benefit. Or, is it that you're just too lazy to come back
looking for a reply?

GET A LIFE!!! Moron!
