We used PPT for the first time during our church service yesterday. Now a
couple of questions/comments. I am using PPT XP with a dual monitor system.

I can have two presentations running and simply alt-tab to switch between
the them. Caused one big oopsie yesterday. Working as designed?

If I want to edit one of the upcoming slides, I get the little box saying
'Resume presentation'. Does that mean that the presentation has come to a
stop until I press that little button? Since we are showing song lyrics,
this would be a problem.

Thanks
Larry

Larry,

The bottom line here is that anytime you take the "focus" away from a
running presentation it comes to a stop.

Using a dual monitor setup this is by design.
It is good that it works this way. Especially in your (and my) application.
I use it for the exact same purpose.
Check out the way to set up song lyric slides at the site below. The site
also give information on how to use the dual monitor setup and options for
switching on the menu under Hardware & Setup and PowerPoint.

What Austin said is exactly right anytime you take "focus" off the slideshow
(in this case you are giving focus to the PowerPoint edit window) the slide
show stops. But all you need to do to give focus back to the slideshow is
hit F5 or hit the resume button. Practice using the F5 button it works a lot
faster than mousing to the resume button.

There are many advantages to this setup for a song service.
You can make changes to the slides if needed with no interruption of the
slideshow. You do have to be quick!
You can more easily skip verses and go back and forth should the song leader
change his mind on the fly.
If you keep the outline pane up you can see what slide numbers are
associated with certain verses or choruses and jump to them by typing the
slide number and hitting enter.

The only thing you need to remember is that if you click (or give focus) in
the editing window (the place you make the slides) you must wither hit F5 or
hit the resume button or ALT-Tab to get back to the slideshow so that you
can advance to the next slide.

Check out the site above it has the best explanation of how to set up songs
for church.
