On shutdown, I get the following message " The instruction at "0x10002669"
Referenced Memory at "0x10002669". The memory could not be read.

The PC will shutdown anyhow, but I am curious as to what the problem is????

No. The message is received just prior to the PC turning off along with a
prompt to either press OK or Cancel to debug the message. If you do nothing,
the PC will still shutdown .

the application is listed in the title-bar (blue) of the window indicating
the error message

you sure there is no application listed ?

The actual page that I see when this message is received is the standard page
with the Windows XP Shotdown logo and nothing else.

hmm.. OK...

what do you mean with standard page ?
Errors like this come in a small message box window, with a title-bar in
blue, which is showing the application.

is there anything logged in the system event log or in the application event
log ?
anything whay might point to the application which is causing this error ?

Just got the same error message shutting down today and the application is "
SVCHOST.EXE".

Ah... after 4 days of postings, we have an application.... which in this
case seems to be a microsoft OS service

but to be sure that it is not something else, please scan/clean your system
with an (up-to-date) virus scanner and malware/spyware remover
(just to be sure it is not malware which is calling itself the same as a MS
service)

there are a lot of hit on the web on this, all relating to Automatic Updates
although I am not sure if this is your problem, at least we can quickly
try....

so why don't you to disable Automatic Updates and reboot
check again... is it still doing this ?
(don't for get to enable Automatic Updates after this)

Was away for a few days. I have since reformatted the hard drive and pleasant
surprise, no more error message. Thank you for your inputs.
