Well, after trying to contact either the e-mail support or the chat support
for two days, I finally got the chat support site to respond.

The message: "You are number 6 in the queue. Estimated wait time: 39
minutes."

Thanks for wasting even more of my time MS.
 
Stay in line or you'll end up at the back of the line.
At least you're not using a telephone.

I used e-mail support; got answer next day. Clean boot (i.e., no non-MS
service, no startup) did the trick for me.
