The forward slant symbol

I've cut and pasted a large document into word that contains quite a lot of
dates using the forward slant symbol (which I like a lot). This symbol is
one of those that Word doesn't want to let you use. Why not? ....and is
there a work-around? I sure hate to change them all in the document. Right
now the "forward slant" in the document looks like it has been changed to
something else.

Word has no problem at all with the forward slash character in
documents--only in filenames.

.
Try pasting into Notepad and then from Notepad to word and
see if that makes a difference. All formatting will be
removed...
