Using Windows 2000 SP4
IE 6.0

I was occasionally getting this message. Now I get it everytime I
reboot and am unable to use IE:

SysFader: iexplore.exe Application Error

The Exception Illegal Instruction
Attempt was made to exectue an illegal instruction [Oxc000001d]
occured in the appliction at location Ox30055a77.
Ok to terminate
Cancel to debug.

I've scanned this newsgroup but can't find the same problem. I used
Elephantboy to do a sysclean (I don't know what that means, just
followed instructions on the site) Have run Spybot S & D. Sysclean
noted some Error<-94> but no viruses.

I don't have the Windows disk, as this is an old computer. I've
searched online for a solution but can't find anything. Ideas?
Thank you.
Becky

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Thanks for the ideas.
Microsoft doesn't have any help for the problem. I scanned their
site extensively.
I did the Hijackthis, posted the log and also checked it myself using
a Hijack tutorial, but that doesn't seem to be the problem..

I think it's an IE problem, because my IE often shuts down for no
reason (at least the Microsift response says they can't explain the
reason.)

I'm thinking it's time to go to Firefox, although I've resisted that
for years. Old habits die hard.

Please post a link to the forum where you've posted your HijackThis log for
review.

Here is the link. I got a response today. As I noted at the end of
my response to the response :) tonight for the first time I got a
'warning' that Shockwave Flash had caused an illegal operation and I
was instructed to close Firefox immediately. I began using Firefox
after I first posted to this newsgroup about my problem because I got
tired of IE shutting down without an explanation. Now I'm thinking
that is why IE kept closing, d/t an "illegal instruction" from
Shockwave Flash. After the "illegal instruction" , IE would shut
down, but Firefox continues to work. Not sure why this problem just
started over the past month, as I hadn't changed anything that I can
recall. I wonder if some sites started using different ads. Anyway,

Stick with your handler in that forum, MVPLDTate. He should be able to get
things sorted out for you, Becky.
