Buy a Canon! i560 is cheap too... individual refillable tanks, no smart
chip, cheap refill ink!

That is not even in the ball park its not a Photo Printer only 4 Colours..

The Epson R300 is a 6 Tank Printer..

I've had the R300 since Christmas. I love it! Pictures print very nicely,
and the option for printing directly on cd/dvd's works great. I've had no
problems at all with this printer!

For (black) text, I think their claimed usage comes to about US 3 cents/page
based on 5% coverage.

Am I correct in saying that the difference between the R300 and the RM300 is
that the latter has the view monitor and the former does not?

OK, Canon i860 or i960. Same comments still apply.

I've just got a R300M. Print quality is great, but currently it doesn't
print directly from my Canon G2 CF cards ?! Still trying to debug this
one (needless to say no response from Epson yet).

Yes but the Canon is nearly twice the price here and the Print head has a
30 Day Warrantee, and from what I have read do not last to long..

The print head is under warranty for 1 year and it's user replacable.

Epsons seem to be more prone to clogging than Canon printers. I'm sure if
you counted the number of of Epson clog threads vs. Canon you'll find there
are more Epson threads. Of course this is a non-scientific measure...

The R300 runs for about 180USD right? The i860 is less then 140USD (I paid
100USD), and the i960 is about 200USD. The i860 is a 4 color + 1 black
printer. While it's only 4 colors, the prints are stunning. The i960 is a 6
color printer.

Refill ink for the Canon i-series of printers is readily available on many
websites making it very cheap to print in full color. I don't think refill
ink for the R300 is available yet - at least from the big resellers.

This is NZ just full of Sheep and Lord of the Rings stuff bad Crap Refill
Kits, and dear computers bits, have not seen the Multi Colour refill ones
yet..

I don't mind paying for cheap OEM Ink Tanks but I just can't stand refills,
well not the crap that is sold here.

I can get the Epson R300/31 for $441nz delivered

The set of ink tanks is $130nz

the Canon i865 is $476.73nz

the i965 is $707.73nz the i950 is $756.74nz..

Total delivered prices..

In that case doesn't matter which printer you get - the Epson and the
Canon are really good. The only major advantages the Canon has is less
prone to clogging (seems to be environment related) and cheaper ink
(which is not applicable in your case).

In that case, the R300 is the better choice, tho the i865 is quite close.
If possible, check the output from both printers before making your
decision.

At these prices, I guess I would lean for the R300 as well - being a true
6 color printer.
