Truly, I'm frustrated here in a hotel room in Berlin. I upgraded from XP to
Vista Ultimate. I get Error 80070643 when I try to install updates. At the
help button, it says I need to enable the OSE Engine. At the top of that
page, it says set it to Manual. In the middle of the same page it says set
it to "Automatic with delay". So I tried both. Still, none of the 9 updates
waiting to be installed will do so; they all fail. Truly, if an automobile
was as counter-intuitive to drive as this software, we'd all crash into
walls. And furthermore, every human face on my laptop is now stretched
sideways and thus fat! And the help and KB for that one doesn't fix it
either! Finally, Flash 9.0 is properly on this computer but somehow blocked
from opening by Vista. And the Help and KB for THAT don't resolve the issue
either! Thanks to any kind soul who can help solve any of these: I've only
a Masters in English, so I'm not up to the challenge alone....

Can you manually download the updates and install. Right click on each
update, View details, click on the support link, find the download link,
download the file, and execute it from the desktop.

For flash there is an installer on the Adobe site. You might want to run it
again. I don't have the link to it, sorry, but check some of the posts in
these Vista newsgroups for one about Adobe by Carey Frisch. The link is in
it.

There was also a recent post about dealing with the FAT faces. Sorry I
don't have a link to that either.

VERY HELPFUL, thank you Rock from a hotel room in Berlin. Since I posted,
I've solved the Flash issue. A person on the Community told me to NOT
download the regular Flash player from the regular Flash site, but this
special one: install_flash_player_active_x.msi I'll try your manual
downloads idea now and I'll search further for the Fat Faces issue .... what
do you think it might have been called? Or which section of the Community do
you think it might have been in? Anyway, thank you!

You're welcome. Sorry I just don't remember. I think it would have been in
vista.general or vista.installation_setup. I read a reply to one thread
yesterday I think.

Unfortunately, individual installation via KB all fail too. Interestingly,
An unrelated download (French Support) installed fine from Windows Update....
just these 9 won't install. Thanks anyway. Peter.

Ok Peter sorry that didn't work. I suggest at this point you post the
update problem to the experts in the Windows Update newsgroup to see if
anyone there has any ideas. Be sure to give the specific errors.
