Steve
My servers (Win2003) are in a mess here, and in the process of sorting
them out, I've inadvertantly messed up the DFS information - and the
dfs root doesn't appear anymore.
In the DFS MMC, I am trying to make a new DFS root, called "dfs". And
I'm getting the error:
The DFS root "dfs" already exists. Please give a different name for
the new DFS root.
In the DFS MMC, in the 'Domain dfs roots', I can see 2 grey computers,
and it says "dfs". This is (I think) the previous dfs root. When I
double-click on that, it says "The specified DFS root does not exist".
Strange eh?
I've already used the command: dfsutil /clean /server:<server>
/share:dfs on all servers in the domain (just to be sure), and that
is successful. I repeated the command (again, to be sure) and it gave
a system error 1168, and said "element could not be found" - I assume
this is ok.
Now, when I use the command: dfsutil /pktinfo /level: I get
information returned like this... and it says DELETE_PENDING. What is
this all about?
Entry: \server1\dfs
ShortEntry: \server1\dfs
Expires in 0 seconds
UseCount: 0 Type:0x281 ( DELETE_PENDING REFERRAL_SVC DFS )
0:[\server2\dfs] State:0x19 ( ACTIVE )
How can I clean up this domain dfs root information, and recreate it
properly?
Thank you,
Steve
