Metadata confusion

Hi all.

I have seen lots and lots of posts about how to remove a
dc using dcpromo, ntdsutil, etc etc etc..

Now here is my issue. I have inherited an AD
infrastructure that was in ruins. After hours of
cleanup, eveything looks pretty good.
However...SOMEWERE...SOMETHING is refrencing an old
DC...probably the first DC in this organization. No
dcpromo was used to remove this server, the old sys admin
decided he wanted the box to be used as his linux server
and just rebuilt it. DOH.

Anyway, I can't seem to find anywhere to remove this
server. There are no references to it under
ntdustil->Metatdata cleanup->Select Operation target.

But this machine resides under domain controllers in AD
users and computers.

Hopefully I haven't rambled too much.

Thanks for your help.

If you have the Support Tools loaded (available on the Windows 2000 CD) on
a domain controller you can open ADSIedit.msc from Start>Run

From there, drill down under Domain NC > DC=<domain> > OU=Domain Controller
Delete the object for the old computer if it is there

Also, drill down under CN=System > CN=File Replication Service > CN=Domain
System Volume
Delete the object for the old computer if it is there
