Hi Phil,
What is the event ID for the Computer Browser Service? You mentioned that you checked the
dependency services - Server and Workstation services are the only two listed for the
browser service in services. So if there is one missing (add it) or anymore than those two
(remove them) and then reboot the box.
Also check the following registry key:
Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser
Compare it with another machine which the browser service works.
Make sure the Computer Browser service is not set to Disabled.
Reboot into Safe Mode with Networking and see if the Computer Browser Service started or
will start.
