Hi ya everyone,
Can anyone please help me out with a problem with a HP pavilian 502n
When I boot it up it goes to the windowsxp boot screen then goes to the
blue screen of death and says that xp is shutting down to protect the
operating system because of unmountable_boot_volume
And it wont boot to anything, such as safe mode.
It just goes back to the blue screen with the same error.
Cant figure it out and it wont even boot to the cd rom drive
Can anyone please help me with this problem??
Thank you

Hi,

Create the 6 disk boot floppy set (link below) on another working machine,
then boot the system with them. Once logged into the installation, run
"chkdsk c: /r" from the prompt (without the quotes obviously). The message
can indicate a problem with the drive, the file system, or a hardware
misconfiguration. Unless you've been tinkering inside the box (like swapping
an 80 wire cable for a 40 wire one), I suspect the problem is likely to be
with the file system.

You may find that the system partition is unrecoverable, if this is the case
you will need to perform a system recovery with your installation media
(follow directions from HP for this). Hopefully you backed up data on a
regular basis so there will not be much loss. If not, and something is
critical, I would suggest you take the system to a professional for data
recovery (and I do not mean the Geek Squad at Best Buy or their equivalent,
I mean a real technician).
