If the battery is not working anymore will that cause the PC to stop
working? I checked the 3 volt 2032 battery and it was dead. The PC one day
didn't start up. Nothing was replaced or upgraded or installed. It quit one
day and that was it.
If I put a new battery onto the motherboard will it start up and be ok?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, attilathehun1

Should be ok...you might have to go back in BIOS and tweek it the way you
had it before.

That depends upon at which point it stopped working....not working when you
turn it on.. or. .did it stop in the middle of some task ..
That little Battery keeps the CMOS alive when you are powered off...the CMOS
stores all of the BIOS information which tells the computer how and what to
start...If the Battery fails you lose that information and the system will
fail to start...replace the battery and the BIOS will reset itself to
Factory Default as such any custom settings would need to be re-entered and
it will function as before.

Stopping in the middle of a running task and shutting down is a different
problem which would require more info from you.

What do you mean by "didn't start up"?
It may cause loss of BIOS data and a failure to boot, but it is an extremely
rare occasion that it won't allow a PC to power on and produce an error
message.

This has NOTHING to do with the OS and is out of place HERE. Of
course you already know this but given the troll that you are you just
ask wherever you want regardless.

Ask elsewhere

I get the feeling that post started with a high-pitched squeal and faded
into a moan. Anyway, it's best to ignore this troll.

The only problem is he's creating a list of dead names other users can't
use. I know I've got 3 of them. Not sure how long your killfile is for
this but if some poor unsuspecting person uses oldduke one day I'll
never see his messages.
