"The AIM service can't be reached"

I have always used AIM on my computer, and yesterday had
to recover my C:/ wiping everything clean and reloading
all the factory software and settings. I then downloaded
the latest version of AIM and installed it, and get the
error message "the AIM service can't be reached"
everytime I try to sign on. I feel like the problem may
be firewall related or has to do with the AIM connections
settings, but I don't know how to proceed from here.
