My disk drive is a dvd/cdr drive. I tried your
suggestion and uninstalled the USB controllers and
DVD/CDR driver. nothing changed.

However, windows explorer does recognize that I have a
disk drive approx 1/20 times I turn on the computer.
When the drive isn't recognized the volume doesn't even
show up in the computer management.

Thanks for your help,

Did your combo DVD/CDR drive have a install CD? Did you
install the software or have you looked on-line for a
download to your hard drive if the CD doesn't work?

BTW, it is a good idea to keep follow-ups on the same thread
so we know what you're talking about.
