I don't post often; I lurk, but have been around 2-3 yrs. I want to
thank the posters listed and those who are not, for their valuable time
and hard work in posting these freewares for us. Without these
freewares, some may never be able to know what it is to have an "MS
(eeeeek) Office", so to speak. I really miss Henk. Henk??? Where are
you??? Sorry you had to leave. I miss your politeness and freeware.

Gordon, you've been especially helpful lately, as I'm trying my best to
transition from horrid MS to Linux. ;-) If only I knew where to start.
;-)

I have a lot of posters killfiled, but you guys really make me feel
much better after reading your which are filled with courtesy and
politeness.

Thanks to all of you, and there were so many the past few days who have
contributed, I just couldn't remember all the names.

Graciously said.

Don't worry. I'm still here and doing fine :-)

Thanks for your kind words.

With kind regards,

Many thanks. And good luck with Linux.

Start with determining if you really want to get your shoes out of
Billy's ass. Linux will tax the MS$ mentality. If you don't find
this acceptable or comfortable, then maybe you need to stay in the
MS$ world. Otherwise...

Knoppix->Mandrake->Redhat and Suse can get you started! These
distros tend to be windows-wannabees and make the users life easy.

When you've finished with these (You are smart enough eh?) , a
proper Slackware and/or Debian distro will teach you more in six
months then any of the above. See for yourself!

I push for Slackware. Join us if you care too... If you can?

All you guys are very welcome. I thought it high time someone thanked
everyone for their hard work and time invested in posting for our
benefit. I know it must seem a thankless task at times.

Scott, thank you for that information. I'm beginning to get my feet
wet. I've read everything I can find on most of the Linux distros, and
I had decided on Knoppix, Suse or Vector Linux. Soooo, with your input,
I'm down to Knoppix or Suse. Thank you for your help. I will find out
if I'm smart enough ;-)

Truly noble of you. There was once a time, maybe a month or two ago
when I had a noble streak and thanked Gordon for posting an update
to a bash scripting tutorial.

I could be wrong and it might be this doesn't apply to you, but I
see "getting my feet wet" as implying you have the desire, but no
commitment. This could be problematic. A possible sign is how often
you find yourself going back to the very thing you're trying to get
way from. And yes, that'll be 75 dollars for the hour. Now please
vacate the couch.

How comes ya dropped Vector? Ah, I see now. It's based on Slackware.
You're right. You are smart enough. Smart enough to know which end
of the pool is the deep end. Do keep Vector, Slackware and Debian in
mind when you learn to swim.

BTW - If you do actually make it into the Linux world, civility and
proper behavior regarding newbies is last on anyones list. Not
always, but most of the time (actually justifiable to some extent).

I wish you the best of luck. Gates and the smurfs are counting on
the inverse.

Funny... that's precisely where I would like to put mine.

Yikes. That didn't come out right at all. A matter of perspective
nothing more. ;). I saw it as if Billy boy walked by you'd see
nothing more then shoes hanging out. The heads being so far up there
and all that.

The truly funny thing is I've been there. Not good.

TYVM for the warning, as I'm sure it's not "concern". I'm not one
to ask for help anyway, so I won't endure any of that hostility,
which, after several years of being a netizen, I've found to be
the "norm" --the greater percentage having no civility nor respect
for those wanting and willing to learn. This occurs not just in
the Linux circles. Far too many are unsociable and uncivil to
their neighbor netizens. Not always, but most of the time
(actually justifiable to some extent). I have never seen a
justifiable case of pure disrespect or disregard for anyone's
feelings. [snip]
