If anyone from MS is actually reading this I'd hope they'd have already
noticed the large number of FP2003 beta testers that got screwed by the
Technical Refresh... me being one of them!

Us testers were notified of the refresh and installed it... but as ALWAYS,
MS WAS TOO LAZY to actually do a detect and install of ALL NEEDED beta app
updates!

So now our FrontPage is HOSED... then they take the refresh off the web.
Just pure genius MS... way to go!

Just makes me want to run out and buy the new suite... YEAH RIGHT!

You'd think MS has enough people that think they are a$$es...
but they just keep handing out the ammo and loading the gun for everyone!

This is just another example of how MS bites the hands that feed them!

The download pages advised you that you must install the MSO TR before the FP TR
- anyway the downloads are gone because the BETA is over and all BETA software expires Nov 30

You can get a 30 day trial version of the final RTM at

....and the beta period is over, since the product has been RTM and will be
on the shelves next week.

Except for mine, which is already on my shelf. ;-)

: me being one of them!

BETA- Generally software that is provided free of charge and
without warranty due to the fact that it is still being
developed and having the bugs worked out. Many times there
are catastrophic bugs which will make the software
non-functional until properl removed and reinstalled.
Usually the people doing beta testing have a set of channels
to communicate with the developer to tell them of problems
and not to spill the details of the program and problems to
the general public.

: Us testers were notified of the refresh and installed
: it... but as ALWAYS, MS WAS TOO LAZY to actually do a
: detect and install of ALL NEEDED beta app updates!

From what I understand the instructions worked. Generally,
the people that had problems did not follow those
instructions.

Oh no. Reinstall FP and reapply the updates. Most Beta
testers I know keep the files and downloads on their machine
to make it easier to reinstall because Beta software by
definition. Why keep the refresh on the web when (1) the
software is officially unsupported and (2) the Beta testing
period is over?

: Just makes me want to run out and buy the new suite...
: YEAH RIGHT!

Why not? Was there something else you did not like about
the program? Not enough new features and methods to play
with.

You were warned before you installed the program that their
may be problems. You were told when you did the refresh
that something else needed to be done first. They provided
you with software before most people even knew about it. If
I understand this correctly then MS was putting their hand
out and this post is biting their hand.

There have been plenty of posts about how absurd your comments are, so I'll
leave that alone, but I also wanted to point out that if you ignored the
advice to install the TR for every product (like you did) there is still a
work around:

Delete all of the DLLs from:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\BIN

Then do a detect and repair from FrontPage.

I'm not sure why you would blame MS for the fact that you chose not to
install the FrontPage TR when it was available.
