Thank you Yves, but I may not have stated my question correctly.

All my pictures open in a certain program. I would like to change the way
ALL my pictures open ALL the time. How can i change that setting? I know
that I can change the way one picture opens one at a time, but I would like
to change the file association that they all open with. Thank you so much
for trying to help....sincerely......E.F.

Yves, normally this would work, and I did try this before, but all boxes are
greyed out! All the suggestions you told me are correct, but for some reason
the change box and the advanced box on folder options and the other one on
"always use this program" is greyed out. Do you know what is causing this?
So sorry...thank you again....E.F.

Try it again.
When you right click on a photo and select Open with there is a list of
software will open. Don't click on any of the software listed. If you do it
will open this photo in the software you click on but this will not change
the association permanently. Look at the bottom of the list. The item
"Choose Program" will be there. Click on this.
This will open another list, again with the available software. Now, click
on Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and there is a box in this windows for
"Always used...." Check this box.
Now the change is permanent.

If this does not work, try the following.
Open a folder containing your photos.
Click on Tools on the top bar
Click on Folder options on to opening list
Click on the File types tab in the opening window
A list will be produced in this window
Scroll down this list to find JPG under extensions
Click on JPG to highlight it and click on the Change button in the center of
this window.
A list of software will appear. Select Windows Picture and Fax viewer.
This will automatically, permanently change the file association.

Maybe the following link will be useful:

Also, you could try opening a folder and go to...
Tools / Folder Options / Files Types tab.
Select the format you wish to change the
association for and click the Change button.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! That certainly did the trick! I am amazed and can't
thank you enough......Sincerely.....E.F.
