Got an Email from "MS Inet Delivery System", Subject:Undelivered Mail:Return
to Sender"
AVG Resident Shield "warned" me, but I spent so much time reading the
warning, that the message opened and out popped "I-Worm/Swen.B"..

Had another message from: "Program Security Section"
Subject:" Internet Critical Update" which showed to have an Attachment.
Opened, didn't open the attachment, but still got another dose of the same
Worm.

Ran AVG which detected and "Cured" both infections
(Not sure what that means, but everything is OK now.)

Please be warned, I only attempted to READ these and opened NO
attachments!!!

Time for a decent news client, yet?

If you are using OE 6, change the read settings to "Text only". You
won't see the eye candy anymore and you will have to open attached
images rather than see them inline, but nothing will execute because
the HTML version will be an attachment you can ignore. Links still
work, though.

Since you are using OE, you need to do a few things to secure it.
Read all info in the links below.

Our domain has been getting about 80 of these every day. Even just reading
them will get you infected.

That's a pretty large generalization.
Tell me how my text only email app is going to let that email infect
me?
I don't even run an on access virus scanner and have still not been
infected.
What you meant to say was "Running an unpatched version of OE and/or
improperly configured OE will get you infected by just reading it"

Thanks for being one of few who actually tried to offer a solution.
Everything is "fixed" now.

Thanks for posting a helpful solution, instead of all
the "opinions" about OE and such.
All is Well now....
Glad all is well now - but you have a nerve criticising those who gave
"opinions" about AVG.

Maybe these were only "opinions" but at least they were informed.

The subject line you chose offered an "opinion" against AVG - which
was not well informed at all.

That may be why some chose to question your "opinion" and your
choice/set-up of email client.

Certainly was for me :-)

Never mind - hope you learnt from it

Obviously you didn't read the responses,as not on spoke about AVG, rather
OE!!

My subject line said "Thank You Free AVG" (meaning Thank You for detecting
and "curing" the worm.) and + how I got it.(By simply opening the emails)

"Yeap..Ah sure did learnt alot" from those who I thanked! I have now
configured OE to avoid what happened.

That's because you're using Outlook Express, or as it's called
by AV experts, "LookOut!Accessed!"

Outlook is almost as good a mail/news client as it is a vector
for spreading viruses and trojans and worms. Almost.

After a number of decimal places, nobody gives a damn.

First off, if you must use OE, close the preview panel when receiving
mail. You can then identify the nasties without opening them. Second,
get yourself a filter like SpamPal which you can train. It will mark
the undesirables and send them directly to the delete folder.
