*.tgz downloads to *.tar

I know some people have already provided answers to this but these solutions
have not worked.

I work in a high tech company and we have ODB++ files which are in the file
format *.tgz. When we download them from our internal web via IE winzip
automatically extracts the file to a *.tar during the download and thus
corrupting the file.

Is there a way to turn OFF winzip extracting files while downloading?

I have already tried the method of turning off the "open" on download, I
have ALSO tried removing my file association so that winzip does not
recognize the *.tgz format but no luck with that either.

Firefox downloads the file fine, but since it is not the approved browser
for use in the company we need to find a solution within IE.

Thanks,
Sabine.

In WinZip, go to Options...Configuration, System tab, Associations button,
uncheck the .tgz box. Or you can rt. click on the file download link and
select "Save Target As.."

If no joy contact WinZip support directly - http://www.winzip.com/xtech.htm.
They are pretty good at getting back to you in 24 hours or so. (Tomorrow is
a holiday.)

Thanks Jon.

We have already changed the config settings on winzip and right clicking it,
but in either case it still results in a *.tar within IE.

I'll try Winzip support, although I am not convinced this is a winzip issue,
since mozilla firefox downloads the file without changing it.

Jon,

We have done some more troubleshooting, and thus far we have narrowed it
down to be a problem with WIN XP SP2 and IE 6 SP2.

In the hopes that it was just the IE I have also tested IE 7 but the problem
still exists.

Sabine.
