Hi

My virus scanner is picking up several virii in the TFTPnnnn files in
my system32 directory. It can't get 'heal' them because they're just
'archive files'.

Can I actually just delete these archive files myself? What are they -
logs from previous software updates or something? Have tried to do a
bit of a search and found nothing so far about them.

I'd like to delete them so I don't get 150 warnings about what I
suspect are harmless files.

Is this OK?

Cheers

Emma.

Are you running TFTP? If not you probably have some trojan running in the
background.

Running TFTP? Not explicitly or willingly.

None of Windows Defender, AVG Anti-virus or PC-cillin have picked
anything up on my machine.

However, things are appearing in my Run entry in the registry (that are
new) and also am a bit worried that an entry for SYSTEM off 'Documents
and Settings' keeps appearing!

Yep, I'd be suspicious too. Might be time for that clean install.

That's like burning down the house to kill a cockroach. Why not rename
the files to something else to see if anything complains. If not after
a few days, delete the files. Because your firewall and antivirus
products are not complaining, I'm assuming those files were just
artifacts of some installation you did in the past.

Might have been termites and the effects of hidden damage are unknown.
