Is it possible to type a group of words in an area of about 3x4 then
turn the area of text to a 45 degree angle? I have tried using a text
box, the box will rotate, but the text will not. I can turn the text
verticle, but not to the 45 degree angle.

The easy way would be enter your text into WordArt, which can be rotated
and edited at will. The only problem with WordArt is that you might not
find a suitable style from the 30 available WordArt styles.

The hard way would be to convert the text into a floating graphic that
can be rotated. Assuming you have Word 2000 or higher:
1. Select the text, press Ctrl+C to copy it to the Windows clipboard.
2. Click on Edit | Paste Special | Enhanced Metafile or Picture | OK.
3. If the resulting graphic is pasted as inline with text, click on
Format | Picture | Layout, and change the wrapping to Square or Tight.
4. If there is extra white space at the right side of the graphic, then
from the Picture toolbar, use the Cropping Tool to crop the extra white
space.
5. Drag the green handle to rotate the graphic to the desired angle.
Unfortunately you cannot change the text once you have converted it to a
graphic, so if you need to change the text, you have to start over (type
the text, convert to graphic, make floating, crop, rotate).

Hope this helps.
