Dear group

Some time ago there was a request for a text to sms converter. I wrote one
yesterday. Download at my program freeware page at
http://www.geocities.com/dirkie6/program.html
I would like comments and maybe more words to add to the inbuilt library to
make the program more comprehensive.

I think it is a really nice start, but that it is very limited mainly
because of its small dictionary.

The above sentence was unchanged by pressing the convert button in
your app. Putting the sentence into

http://www.lingo2word.com/translate.php

gave this:

I tnk itz a rly nce *t, bt dat itz vry ltd mainly cuz of its sml
dxNre.

I would like your app to be able to compete with the above, which
implies a very large dictionary. When I was looking for an app, I saw
plenty of online dictionaries but no neat, downloadable text ones so
the task of compiling one might be fairly laborious.
Also, it would help a lot if the user could manually import words into
the dictionary and customise it.

I suppose part of the challenge here is to think of a semi serious use
for a program of this sort in order to give some sort of incentive to
develop it further.

Follow up: I sneaked back on an AOL dial up and put in

how are you? long time no see

This was translated as

hw r U? LTNC

which then translated back as

how are you? Long Time No Chat.

Not a patch on my favourite machine translation tale (probably
apocryphal):

'Out of sight, out of mind' into target language and back to
original language

Returns as 'invisible idiot'
