text is squares

I made a back-up of my "word" documents then re-built my
hard drive. When I re-installed my documents the text
looks like squares. How do I get back my original text?
Please help! These docs are VERY important. Thanx much.
 
Sounds like you reinstalled Windows but there were some non Windows provided
fonts in the font folder. You must have added them at a later time. If you
have a file you can share I'll see if I can open it, identify the font and
send the font file to you.

Or do you know which font was used in creating your files?

Another possibility is you need to add a SR update to Word.
