Hi friends, what is a Text Editor and could some kind person point me in
the direction of a good one, please.
Jo.

A text editor is a piece of computer software for editing plain text. It is
distinguished from a word processor in that it does not manage document
formatting or other features commonly used in desktop publishing.

Windows comes with Notepad.

You can Google for other options.

Thx for the info
Jo.

A program that edits text files. It's similar to a word processor but is
much simpler and doesn't have any of the formating options that you expect
in a word processor.

If you don't know what a text editor is, why do you want one? At any rate,
Notepad, which comes with Windows, is a very simple text editor, but it's
perfectly acceptable for the great majority of the text editing that most of
us might want to do. It's certainly sufficient for my needs.

There are more capable third-party alternatives, but chances are that
someone who doesn't know what a text editor is doesn't need that extra
capability.

If you want to learn about text editing, Start-Run-<notepad> to run notepad,
type "this is text editing", print it and that is about all you will ever
want to do with notepad. You asked for a good one, UltraEdit, is the only
text editor that you need. www.ultraedit.com. It will serve your needs for,
well, forever. It should cost thousands of dollars, but it is less than $50.

I agree entirely. It is the greatest thing since sliced bread - well almost!
