No, not between the left and right margins --
between the top and bottom margins. Is there someway to
do that automatically, so I don't have to add "space
before."

As Terry says, this feature (which is available in Publisher) is not yet
available in Word. One workaround is to insert a single (borderless) table
cell in the text box and use the Vertical Alignment control in the table to
vertically center the text.
