When i try to insert a text box into a template the text
box always has an indent of 1.27cm. which i do not want!!

I would have thought this would be a simple task, but
nothing seems to be simple when it comes to Microsoft

Set it just once!

Okay -- set it -- then on the drawing menu click DRAW --> SET AUTOSHAPE
DEFAULTS and all future text boxes should be formatted as the text box was
when you set the defaults (including line, line color, line thickness, fill
color, margins...)

My recollection that if you right-click on the edited Text Box and choose
Set AutoShape defaults, Word only remembers the change for that session of
Word. I always thought this a little dumb, but that is how it works.

No, it works only for that document. If you want to change the default for
all documents, you have to change it in the document template (Normal.dot if
that's what you've used).

Click. Ah! Thanks for the reminder. It's a template setting!
