text box

When inserting a text box into Word 2003, the text is not showing when in "Normal Mode", however, does display in web or other views. When in Normal mode, I can tell that the object is there, and will print on my document, but cannot get it to display on screen.
 
Normal view is designed to only show text. I only use it when my document
has a lot of graphics and I just want to modify text. This way it moves
through the document better. Other times I ALWAYS use Print Layout (or Page
Layout in 97). I prefer the What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) format.

Sorry, that is the way it works, since a text box is considered an "object"
that sits on your page and can be moved around and not just "plain text".

As Bill says, a text box is a drawing object. Drawing objects (anything in
the drawing layer) are not displayed in Normal view, which displays only the
text layer.
