Text box referencing cell

Is there any way to put a text box on a chart and have it reference information in
a cell? I have a pie chart that breaks out worldwide volumes by division. I'd
like to put the total of all the pieces into a text box near the chart. Any ideas?

Hi Rita,

The simplest way is to select the chart, press = and the click the cell
you wish to link to.
This should add a textbox to the chart, which you can then move and
format as needed.

I spoke too soon. Changes to the data in the cell does not update the text box.
Any other thoughts???
 
Each time I change the cell, I have to select the text box and hit enter. Kind of
a pain, but much better than having to type everything into the box every time.

I have been trying to obtain the same result, only I would like to
link an autoshape (such as a callout) and not a text box.
My problem is that when I select the autoshape and do the whole type
"=" in the formula bar, excel gives me a new text box, and does not
put the text in the autoshape.
I have a feeling it has to do with what layer the autoshape is in,
because it works fine when the autoshape is on the spreadsheet, but
not when it is on the chart (i.e. it moves with the chart).
Any ideas?

Interesting, I hadn't tried autoshapes before. But you are correct the
dynamic link doesn't work. As for the reason I have no idea.

To get round the problem add the autoshape and a textbox. Link the
textbox in the normal way and then group the two shapes.
This should keep the text dynamic.

I've tried both your suggestions and they work.

It's a "mysterious" issue, because after posting my request I searched
some more and found another solution:

Creating the autoshape outside of the chart, linking it, then cutting
and pasting it inside the chart.

It also works without exceptions - although frankly I think there is
more to this issue: to tell you the truth, I HAVE been able to create
linked autoshapes inside a chart without any additional procedure, but
the fact is it works only 1 out every 20 times I try it.
Anyhow, for now I am satisfied with what you have suggested.

Is there any way of linking a textbox to a textbox on another sheet
i.e copying whatever is in the first
 
The easiest thing to do is to link both to the same cell.

Select a drawing commandbar textbox so its border is highlighted but
there's no blinking cursor, click in the formula bar, press the Equals
key, and select the link cell with the mouse.

If you use a textbox from the Controls Toolbox, type the cell address
into the LinkedCell property of the textbox.
