Text alignment reversed

I am using Office 2007. My text alignment buttons have become reversed, so
that when I select left alignment, the text is actually right-aligned (and
vice versa). Centering seems unaffected. In the "Reveal formatting" style
pane, the text acts the way I expect; it is only in the file itself that this
occurs.

This is happening in *every* new file I open, so seems to have affected the
document template defaults.

Do you have a right-to-left language (Arabic or Hebrew) enabled? If
so, your normal.dotm (or normal.dotx) template might have "Section
direction" set to right-to-left (in Page Setup > Layout).

Mr. Daniels,

I thought the same thing, but I was not able to produce the behaviour that
Silverlock reports.

Using every combination of Section direction (PageLayout) and paragraph
direction (Home>Paragraph) that I could think of, the Align Text Right and
Align Text Left controls still "tracked" the display and acted accordingly.

Are you able to produce the behavior?

Exit Word. Rename the Normal template. When you start Word, then does it work
properly?

Note that in order to find the Normal template, you can search for
normal.dotm in Windows; be sure to search hidden files and folders.
