Testing with Spinrite, very slow spot!

Running Spinrite 5 on a 40 GB IBM harddrive, I'm testing at level 5, the most complete
level. Overnight, in about 10 hours Spinrite tested 86% of the partition it's testing.
But it's now taken about 20 hours to test the next 1/10 of 1%. 20 hours later it's
still at the 86.1% level. I've tried changing the level, to level 4 and then to level
3, but with not noticiable change in it's speed of testing. It must be on a bad spot
but it's clear if it's going to take another month to get through this spot.

Does anyone familiar with Spinrite have a suggestion for me? I don't think I can just
stop the testing and just skip this bad spot, but is that possible?

Toss it in the bin, its always been snake oil.
I don't think I can just stop the testing and
just skip this bad spot, but is that possible?

You think it will still go on after you pull the plug from the wall socket. yeh?
 
Well I don't use spinrite, but some operations on HDD are very time
consuming, for example selfscan procedure on HDDs can take up to 1 week if
there are bad surfaces.
That's why it is recomended to hook up the HDD on seperate PSU

Well, in MFM and RLL (original) times, SpinRite actually did better
than other testers. Today it is a bit different.
