I want to test a web page using a database on my PC. I have XP Pro and have
installed IIS with Frontpage Extensions but it does not appear to update the
database. What do I need to do?

What error are you getting?

Are you opening the site as a local server based site (http://localhost)
- if it does not open you need to apply the FP SE in IIS

Is the DB (Access?) in your local web (use File Import and FP will put it in the fpdb folder plus create a global.asa for it

If it is, did you check the DB connection

Thanks Stefan.

I am using Access and it is in the fpdb folder and a global.asa has been
created. However I am not opening the site as a local server based site.
How do I do that?

In FP File Open Site and enter http://localhost/ or http://yourPCname/

For the FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions Support Center see:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;fp10se

1) Download FP 2002 Server Extensions:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnservext/html/fpse02win.asp
English ones are at:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/FrontPage2002/fpse1002/1/W98NT42KMeXP/EN-US/FPSE1002.exe
2) Download FP2002 Server Extensions Updates (and install in this order):
http://download.microsoft.com/download/FrontPage2002/fpse1001/1/W98NT42KMeXP/EN-US/fpse1001.exe
http://download.microsoft.com/download/FrontPage2002/fpse1002/1/W98NT42KMeXP/EN-US/fpse1002.exe
3) Install the Security Patch at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813380
4) Then to apply them see:

Good
Never open a server based site (localhost) as a disc based web (using the filepath), or it will get corrupted

Please explain this in most detail. Do you mean like in IE do not navigate
to site with the File on menu?
Thanks,

No, do not open a server-based web as a disk-based web in FP. If viewing with a browser and you want
to see how the site will function from the server, then you also do not want open it via the file
path.

Is the http://localhost/ or http://PCname/ used when set the 'web setting'.
I did try to set the database URL setting in 'web setting' to either localhot
or PCname, but none of them work. When I try to insert database result, it
always have the connection error. I am using FrontPage 2003. Is there any
patches need to be down load? Or, there should be another place to connect
to FP database?
