Tested thoroughly...barely stands up against other freeware types...

Although installation and GUI are very important, as well
as good functionality, the end result should be to
actually detect and remove spyware. We have had all sorts
of trouble with many kinds of spyware (employer, friends,
family etc.) and this app seems to be no different in
removal techniques than any of the others that are
freeware. In particular (Spybot, Adaware etc.).

I would love to know how you planned on getting this to
sell above what is already out there for free?
If it will be integrated into Windows then what good will
it be above any other 3rd party innovations currently in
use?

Sure you have a few "neat" extras (notifications from
Tasktray, minor protection features) but the problem still
remains. I need the spyware to go away and AntiSpyware has
not resolved that issue. In particular HOSTS file hijacks,
randomly named DLL's and rogue Executables can keep any
Spyware removal App from serving its purpose.

This application currently runs very well in the
environments we tested (Windows 2000 SP4 and XP SP2) and
the interface is very attractive but again it did not
remove any more spyware than any of the already existing
free versions. Just like a pigs tail - it's kinda cute but
it doesn't put much meat on the table.

I wouldn't say all that.

True, it doesn't bring much NEW to the table. But what
does it do? For those with no Anti-Spyware tools, this is
an idea. Those who avoid Spyware S&D because of it's
confusing interface and, and those who never got updates
for AdAware until it started doing 15 day reminders - it's
for the 'new user' - and it'll do very well.

In a world where the only name people know is "Microsoft"
they'll trust it. While the some of the computer populous
consider MS the devil, a large number of them only know
what comes on their computer. So having software like
this embedded in future service packs and retail versions
of Windows (Longhorn) will make a major difference.

All you're saying is it offers nothing over what existing
software does. True. But is it nearly equal with the
competition? ABsolutely. For the majority of users who
don't have level 1 of protection, this will be a nice
addition, from a name they've come to trust,
unlike "Lavasoft."

It depends on what spectrum of spyware you exposed AntiSpyware to. I ran it
against a Grokster spyware-supported install and it detected a few things
that Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D missed.

It's real-time protection is also another big advantage - I am aware that
Ad-Aware SE Standard and above support this but the more technologies that
are in the field promotes good competition.*

The UI does seem simpler and more user-friendly which the advantage of
*cannot* be understated. If it is simple and friendly to use, then The
Masses may adopt it in a more widespread manner.

* Yes, I know that was possibly an oxymoron when posted to *.microsoft.* ;-)

I agree with you. My beef is not with Microsoft, it is
with Spyware. The issue at hand though shows me that they
are only jumping on the Spyware (cash making) bandwagon.
whether they charge for it or incorporate the software
into their new OS they are simply pulling a political move
to show their user base that "they care" to sell more
software.

Although it is a nice thought to know they care, I sure
wouldn't want to be bleeding when the "Microsoft"
ambulance pulls up to tell me how much they care but do
nothing more about it than the other police officers
standing around. I want special care.

OK, so maybe I am expecting too much and truly I am not
much for arguing the fact that they always have tried and
that most of their products are very good. My actual issue
is that I expected more from the maker of the software
that gets infected with spyware. Dog-gone it, I Want a
