After being incomunicado for years, I can finally post new comments, and not
just answer to others. Good for Microsoft allowing access. Will feel more
happy in new year.

Hi Efrain,

This group is really not all that exclusive. If it were, I never would have
been let in. :>

Hi Alan:
Neither I nor family and friends living in Puerto Rico could originate
posts. This was because Microsoft will identify our ISP as outside the 50
States, which in fact is. Starting in 07 they allow this territory and we can
post, but are still left out in the Microsoft sales to users. They don't
provide for PR in the list of States, as all other suppliers do. They should,
because we are the 5th purchasing power of USA products.

Yes. thank god we don't have communism to make us look behind our
sholdiers every now and then. In China I had lots of problems because
chinese were wary of white looking caucasians and even in restaurants I
had to be watchful!!. The concept of freedom of speech is simply isn't
in their culture.

Hello Efrain,

I never realized that people from Puerto Rico could not originate posts
until now. Is that for all Microsoft newsgroups or only for the
microsoft.private.* categories?

And as far as not listing Puerto Rico in the list of states -- or other
geopolitical entities -- I'm REALLY surprised.

In any case, welcome.

Alan

Hi Alan:

Thanks for your answer. I can now post in this type of forum, the one we are
right now , which i will call the "old " type. I have no problem posting in
the new forum like this one:
http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/default.aspx?SiteID=2

We have can not buy from Microsoft because their check out don't provide for
PR in the State option.
I had to buy my future Vista Ultimate to J&R, even thou all Vista DVD's are
manufactured in the Microsoft Puerto Rico plant.
Another one. Dell has the same problem. We can't buy from Dell USA. Have to
go thru Dell Latin America (Panama or Maxico), which offers medium grade PC.
Every 3 years I buy the extreme most powerful XPS Dell, but it is sent first
to my son address in Riverview, Florida (retired from the Air Force). He then
sends it to me. I end up paying Riverview taxes, Puerto Rico taxes, plus
additional shipping.
Someday this will change. I hope.

I'm interested--I think that the issue you are posting about is something I
have heard about in the past, but I'm not sure. Are you aware that you can
access the content in these groups via NNTP, and that NNTP almost certainly
has no geographic boundaries enforced?

I have never heard such a strange thing. I live in Japan, and I have
always been able to post (original posts as well).

Hi Bill and Pat:
If I try to buy the Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 directly from Microsoft this
is what I get in response:

Thank you for choosing Microsoft products.
Microsoft can accept orders from and ship orders to customers in the 50
United States and Washington, D.C., only.

Lately Amazon is doing the same. My old faithful J&R has always ship to us.
I don't know why this is happening. Someday this will end, I hope.

We should be treated with more respect. If you make a ratio and proportion
between the the number of puertorricans that have died in the Gulf War, and
the population of Puerto Rico, our death outnumbers by far any of the 50
States. Remember that some of our native puertorricans move with the family
to the States and join the army there, to have higher benefits in case of
injury or death. So, the State in which he enrrolled will count his death as
theirs. Believe me, we exceed by far death toll of California and New York.
Hillary Clinton help us in getting the Navy out of Vieques. Among many
others they were using munitions with depleted uranium. Many Viequenses have
died of cancer, and Vieques has the highest rate of cancer, compared to any
other town here.
I hope Hillary Clinton becomes our the next President. Who kows, maybe she
will resolve our status dilema, that has been going on for the last 106
years. Let us be a State or give us our independence. As simple as that.
It's 2:34 AM while I write. I haven't cried in the last 49 years, and I feel
like, but of RAGE.

Hi Efrain,

Posting restrictions (which I have never seen), and refusal to sell
something outside the US are two entirely different things. Amazon is
about the only US company that ships to outside the US, but also not all
items. Why this is so, I don't know; legal reasons, ignorance, or pure
evil - I really don't know.

But I have always been able to post in any Microsoft newsgroups; I'm
glad that you manage to do so as well. What happened before when you tried?

Hi Pat:
I read the daily posts on some Microsoft forums like Messenger, OneCare, and
Defender. Every 2 weeks I will Sign On, no problem. I will click the New and
select either Question or General Comment. For less then a second a screen
(maybe the one I am using) will popup, close and then a new one will popup
asking me again my email and password. This could be repeated many times.
Every Time the Microsoft survey popup will appear in the forum, I will take
time to answer all their questions and complained about the lack of access to
the forum. They were accessing me directly throuh the forum and I could't
access the forum directly.
Usually I had to wait for Angel to post the Defender update to express
myself. But it's OK now. No problema. Waiting to put my hands on the Ultimate
Vista.

I'm with you all the way. I tend to suspect purely commercial motivation,
rather than politics, but I've no idea what's going on--i.e. why this would
be changing.
