I am getting a messsage that says an unexpected RCP event
has occurred and that WIndows i shutting down in 30
seconds, whcih it does then due. This, of course, prevents
me from doing any significant amount of work on line.
Norton Anti-Virus full scan indicates there are no viruses
in any file. What is happeniogn and what needs to be done
to prevent it?

Sounds like the blaster worm.
try here:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Definite MSBLAST suspect as a virus.

Before going to the web page, confirm by opening Task
Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and looking in services. There
should be a MSBLAST.EXE running. You can end this process
before going to the web page.

The msblast.exe is in two folders:
windows\prefetch and
windows\system32
It is also in the registry. Follow the support web
reference and keep your windows more up to date!
