Terminal Server probs

Has anyone experienced problems with the spoolsv.exe
service running at about 20-45% all the time. Obviously
that severely hampers a machine with the need for about 30
users on it. Only 3-4 clients printers are on the box but
it is not an option to pull them off.

Have looked at MS knowledge base to no avail. Have tried
a couuple of different things to know avail - and didn't
want to have the downtime in the middle of a production
cycle to rebuild.

Once rebooted - the first person that tries to print to
any client printer regardless of how it is connected -
kills the spooler service. Once it is restarted,
everything works fine except the spoolsv.exe runs out of
control almost constantly.

Any suggestions => (e-mail address removed)

I had that problem with 3 Tally 8006e.. basically the drivers were causing
it. A later driver fixed my problem. What printer(s) is on the server?

Let's see:
HP5
HP Deskjet 950
HP Laserjet 1200
and some networked printers which should not matter because
their drivers are on the networked print server.

Any ideas?

Printer drivers can cause issues like this but more often it is the custom port monitor added to the system with the printer
driver. Since most of these port monitors are only used if the printer is physically connected to the system they are
normally save to remove.

Check the registry key HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitor for any sub-keys for third party port monitors,
the article below lists the port monitors that come with the OS. If you find any, export a copy of them as a backup, remove
them and then stop and restart the Print Spooler for the change to take affect.
