Hi,

Anyone tried to run terminal server client over a GPRS connection ?

Im planning to purchase several GPRS PCMCIA cards for laptops. The mobile
phone network supports coverage accoss most of the UK. This is the only
method I can think of to support user access from anywhere with a laptop.

Im aware that a VPN clinet connection can be established over GPRS and I was
planning to run the TS client as bandwidth, ive read, can vary between 20-40
kbps.

Im worried about the cost of data transfer more than anythings. Does anyone
have any information on approximate data transfer rates/size (obviously
depends on what you are doing) but is it just keystokes and images ?

Thanks for any information.
Scott.

Thanks for the reponse.

A "network monitor" is a great idea.

If you know of a free package please post here.

Cheers
Scott.

Hi,

I found a package called LINKFERRET. In 3 seconds it captured 46066 bytes
(IP) and 49188 bytes (DIX). ( a total of 203 frames and 95KBs).

From this can I deduce that per second I should expect approx 31KB per
second i guess.

Thanks
Scott.
