temporary internet files

I wanted to look at the stuff in temporary internet files so I went to
Internet Options, Temporary Internet Files and History Settings, and poked
"show files" and it displayed a little more than a screenful of files. None
of them had a remote URL, they all appeared to be from my local hard disk.
I brought up the properties dialog for the directory -- it was in something
like C:\users\<userid>\appdata\local\microsoft\windows -- and it said there
was over 100 meg of files in the directory, but the files it was showing
added up to less than 100K. I opened Folder Options and told it to display
protected operating system files, but that didn't help. What's the deal?
It knows it has all those files in there, why isn't it showing them?

Exactly what problem are you trying to solve? It might help if you
mentioned why you have this concern.

I want to look at the files that have been downloaded from the internet.

The problem I am trying to solve is that they are not being displayed.

Are you answering for Richard (the OP) or are you asking a new question
(which is actually the same question you've been asking in the
vista.general NG)?

Alright, as far as this line of questioning goes, there is only "ONE"
question we all have here. Please Quit obfuscating the issue. The
question/problem is : We want to see "ALL" Temporary Internet Files ... NOT
"just the cookies", OKAY ? Tell us how to fix this Vista problem. When I try
to navigate to Computer\C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temporary Internet Files
then I get a message that location is not accessible. What's the deal ? This
is a bunch of crap making my directory inaccessible. If this cannot be fixed,
then Screw Vista, I'm going back to Windows XP where I have more control on
my system. This is pure overprotectiveness.

If you want control over your computer, you need to do some research, and
learn how to take ownership

Once Again ... I want to see "ALL" Temporary Internet Files , NOT "just the
cookies" ! The directory you mention ONLY shows my cookies. I have gone to my
Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View > and picked the option to
show hidden files and folders AND un-picked the option to hide protected
operating system files ... so these should all be visible ... they are NOT.
Why ? I am not the only person with this problem, as others here have stated
the same problem. We all keep getting these instructions to navigate to
C:\Users\(name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files. The
only thing there are COOKIES ! Okay ? These are not the temporary internet
files ... so where are they ? And why can't I simply navigate to them without
using DOS Command Prompt key-ins ? I don't need total control of my computer,
so I'll forego the advice of "taking control" websites. I would think someone
at "this" website could simply answer how to unveil these temporary internet
files without further obfuscation. Thank you, though, for the advice.
