temporary internet files

Ever since I installed IE 7, my temporary internet files are deleted when I
turn off my computer (or maybe when it is restarted). I have searched
everything I know within my system and I cannot find out why. Does anyone
have an answer for this?

Hello byrd,

Maybe, is because is mark the box Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when
browser is closed.

Look in the Internet page in Tools ->Internet Options ->Advanced ->Secutity.

I hope this post is helpful.

Hello byrd,

I'm not sure if your problem is the same, but I read a posting in
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general yesterday, where the poster said
that he had no temporary Internet files in his folder. It turns that with
IE7 it seems that a person has to allow viewing of both hidden and system
files in order to see their TIFs.

Alan makes a good point. The subfolders Content.IE5 and Antiphishing are
typically hidden while you are logged on.

Hi Byrd

I think Engels has the best advice as to why your TIFS are being deleted.
Uncheck the `Empty TIFS when browser is closed` check box option under
Tools>Internet Options >Advanced>Security.

Thanks for the responses.
I should have mentioned that I do have the “Empty Temporary Internet Files
folder when browser is closed†box unchecked. I also have the “Hide
protected operating system files†in Folder Options, View unchecked.
I don’t necessarily care that the internet files are deleted except that the
cookies are also deleted which forces me to enter my ID and Password in the
sites I use – I don’t want to have to enter these every time I use these
sites.
I have checked my settings on all of my anti-virus and anti-spyware software
– Ad-aware, Spybot, AVG, Windows Defender as well as Freedom which comes with
the Adelphia high speed. I really suspect that by installing IE 7 something
got clobbered internally.
Thanks for any help that you can provide.

It almost sounds like you are running Ccleaner at Windows Startup. This tip
may be helpful. Assuming you have more than one Logon Id, you can logon to
let's say account A and with Explorer look at Content.IE for account B. By
using fast user switching, you should be able to isolate at what point the
temporary files are being deleted.

You might try checking that relevant setting, applying it, then unchecking
it.
