temporary files

Whenever I save a file in any program, especially word
documents, and I exit the program, the temporary file that
was created during the running of this program, saves to
my hard drive also. I have a lot of these temporary files
floating around and I was wondering if anybody know
anything about this.

Word creates hidden temporary files in various locations on the hard drive.
Normally these files are closed/deleted when no longer required, but when
Word crashes the temporary files could remain on your hard drive and can
cause problems.
