Hello,

I would like to temporary disable plug and play hardware scanning in Windows
XP. This because I'm deleting hardware with devcon, but windows automatically
rescans for new hardware immediately.

Does anyone have a solution?

Regards,

Turn the hardware detection service off:

Run->net stop ShellHWDetection

You may also have to turn off the Plug and Play service:

Run->net stop PlugPlay

except that it won't work (the Plug and Play service does not support being turned off). A work around-assuming it's even
necessary-is to set PlugPlay to manual instead of automatic and reboot. It won't run then, so you don't have to turn it off. Don't
forget to set it back to automatic when you're done, (and you can run it without rebooting.)
