Template sort order (File > New in Windows Explorer)

Hi,

This is regarding when you choose "File > New" from Windows Explorer or
Right Click on the Desktop and choose New to create a new file.

When I look at the list of templates in TweakUI, they are presented to me in
alphabetical order. But when I choose them from the menu in Windows, they are
in a seemingly random order.

Is there anyway to get them to display in a sorted order?

Many thanks.

They probably seem to sort incorrectly because they come from three
different folders.

%Userprofile%\Templates

%Allusersprofile%\Templates

%Systemroot%\ShellNew

Add items to the New menu (aka ShellNew entries)

Thanks for the reply, Wesley. Much appreciated.

I looked in those folders but not all the templates are there. Going by that
helpful link you posted, the rest of the entries seem to be configured in the
Registry.

However, it has just occurred to me that they are not random at all. It's
just that they are sorted alphabetically by file extension! The actual text
which is displayed on the menu for each item seems to be ignored for the
purposes of sorting (except in TweakUI).

I've just had a play and noticed that I can use the Advanced button on the
File Types tab (in the Folder Options) to change the name associated with
each particular extension, and the text in the New menu then changes
accordingly. So this is one solution which would make it a bit easier for me
to quickly select which option I want from the New menu.

But what would be ideal is if there was a flag/option that I could set
somewhere in the Registry so that the shell would sort by the text rather
than the extension, just like TweakUI does. I don't suppose there is anything
like this is there?

Many thanks once again for your help.

P.S. What's with the "hunted and pecked" in my quote :)
