I created a template with (text and dropdown) links to later pages in the same document. Sometimes it works, but most often after I clase and save as, the fields in the later pages show an error message of "Error! Not a valid link". Why?

Difficult to say without seeing exactly what kinds of links are being created

1. Which version of word are we dealing with

2. Can you describe in some detail how you create these links (that don't always work)?

3. Press Alt+F9 to display the field codes. Please copy/paste in to your reply what you find between the { } brackets for a couple of these links.

Thanks for your reply.
The document is in Word 97.
The links were created by using Copy/Paste Special/Paste Link.

LOT # & ADDRESS
PURCHASER
HOUSE/ELEVATION
EXTERIOR COLORS
SHINGLES

Above is a copy of the beginning of the form. The fields didn't paste, but they look like {FORMTEXT} or {FORMDROPDOWN} OR {FORMCHECKBOX}.

On the sheets I pasted these to, an example of the way the fields is {LINK Word.Document.8 "C:\\My Documents\\Maple Lake\\Selections\\3Selections MasterTemplate.dot" OLE_LINK6 \a \r }.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?SlQ=?=,

You want to re-display the information in other parts of the same document, right?

Each of these form fields has a name (you can see and change it in the "Options" dialog box). Insert a Cross Reference to this name (bookmark is the tech-term) and you should be fine.

Then be sure to activate the "Calculate on Exit" checkbox in the formfields' Options for all the fields that should cause the link to update.
