Hi, can anyone help with a problem i have with my computer crashing, my
computer starts up fine then on entering any account holder it crashes,
the second attempt usually lets me in but it has taken up to 8
attempts, it started after i started to use an external DVD rewriter
(now disconnected) but that may just be coincidence. after the crash i
get a error report locals~1\Temp\WERf23 with a verity of numbers
followed be either xml or sysdata or dump. I have seen that Temp\WER
could be a worm but have scanned with tool and no worm found (system
restore off)I have Xp home service pack 2. AMD Duron 1.2 the external
DVD is an LG with the latest firm ware, and all the latest updates for
software. Tony

It is not a worm.

locals~1\Temp\WERf23 is probably
Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Local Settings\Temp
or
%homepath%\Local Settings\Temp

appcompat.txt shows up in a temporary folder.

Sample >>>
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER9.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp is a temporary folder. Empty it.

The appcomp.txt file is created when there is a conflict between programs,
drivers, etc. It is a reporting file used when uploading error reports to
Microsoft.

If you do not want to see appcomp.txt again, disable Error Reporting.

Open System Properties...
Start | Run | Type: sysdm.cpl | Click OK |
Advanced tab | Error Reporting button | Check:
Disable Error Reporting | Check: But notify
me when critical errors occur | OK | Apply | OK

Disable Error Reporting
[[Select to disable error reporting. When this option is selected, error
reports will not be generated.]]

But notify me when critical errors occur
[[Select this option to have Windows notify you when a critical error
occurs, even if you have disabled Error Reporting.]]

Hope this helps. Let us know.
