Hello All,

An odd thing happened to one of my users. When he logged in on Windows XP
to an SBS 2003 server his profile had changed. now in the documents and
settings there is a temp profile. I tried to delete it after logging in as
the administrator but there were files that were locked and in use. I also
could not rename the temp folder. Why would this happen. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,

This can happens simlpy because profiles tend to get corrupted with time.

Logon as local admin:
Right clic on My Computer/ properties/ advanced/ profiles.
There you have the list of profiles used in the system, try to delete the
temp from here, first make a copy of it with the Copy to, just in case.

Then you have to check if the user's profile is properly configured,
First in AD users and computers, check that nothing unusal is there.
Second, in the local machine, log in with another account (ADMIN)
goto the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
Under here you will find some long numbers these are known as the Users SID,
click on 1 of them and check the details and it should give you a
profilePath.

Check that the user's profile is correctly addressed there, if not, change
it for the good one.
Also take a look at the events so maybe you can get any information of why
that has happened.

Hope this helps to get a solution,

Luis.
