That seems a little high for a 1 ghz machine. I assume that you've given
the idle temp. I have a couple of AMD machines (2.4 & 2.1 ghz) and they
run about 41c-44c. What's you case ventilation configuration?

Are you sure that it is reading the right sensor? Check with Everest
Home from www.lavalys.com and see what that says. If it really is, you
need to get some better cooling in your case and a good heatsink/fan.
What is on it right now? Nothing? I don't think I've ever had one of
those run that hot.

That's 123.8 degrees fahrenheit. While this is an acceptable temparture, it is a little hot. Do you experience this temparture while heavily using your computer or when it is idle? If this is an idle temp you've got major problems. If you're running alot of stuff, you should be ok. To play it safe, ensure that there is a heatsink and fan properly installed ontop of the processor. A heatsink is a metal cube that has alot of surface area--it isn't so much a cube as it is panels of metal joined togeather with space inbetween. This helps to dissipate heat. Also ensure that there is a fan attached to the heatsink. Clean it off if it is dusty--this goes for the heat sink as well. Go to a computer store and buy one of those compressed air cans. Point and shoot (don't breathe in the dust =)) Also, installing a case fan would be prudent. This is a fan in the back of the computer that pulls the hot air out and allows cold air to push its way in. De-dust all the computer components -- even a thin layer can raise temparture. Don't run the computer when the room is 120 degrees+. Lol, had a friend down near death vally who cracked his processor because of this. =) Enjoy.

Also, don't overclock. And, if you have a computer-minded son who uses that machine-- ask him if he clocked it. =)

My 0.5GHz Athlon in a home-grown multi-fan case runs ~45°C running
a FP-intensive app. My 1.45GHz Athlon in a commercial mono-fan case
runs ~55°C running a FP-intensive app. Both are in an AC-ed room
with air temp ~25°C. Both Athlon CPU chips have active heatsinks.

As Martha Stewart might say, "Fans are a good thing".
