Hello,

there is an image file in my temp internet file folder that I need to
determine whether it was saved there intentionally (using the save as option)
or inadvertantly because someone clicked on some webpage. Please Help!!!!

Thanks,

Hi Sohail,
If it in the Temp Folder then you don't need it, it is downloaded by sites
been visited.
Go through these cleaning steps and see if you will get rid of it:
1... Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs
| Advanced .

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called
[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on
[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [
Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one
later and see which is the culprit or you can send them here in your next
post) and click [OK] to confirm your Changes.

Click on Advanced Tab and scroll down under the browsing option and uncheck
this box:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) and click Apply
then OK to close your IE Properties.

2.... And also for malwares from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

Also you can download this:
http://www.ccleaner.com to delete it or try in safe mode first.
HTH.

Hi,
In order for IE to display the page, the content has to be downloaded to the
Temporary Internet Files folder, unless the website disallowed caching- very
few sites don't allow caching of content. Even an unwanted, spurious pop-up
window would place content in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

In other words, a user may have deliberately visited the page or the user
may have been the victim of a redirect or a pop-up window. An image in the
Temporary Internet Files folder was *probably* not deliberately saved to
that folder.

Hope this helps,

Thanks. Is there any way for one to be sure whether it was saved there by
clicking on a link or using a "save link as" option into the same folder???

Hi,
The image is in the Temporary Internet Files folder because the webpage was
accessed / displayed / downloaded. You can't really determine much more than
that.

It is very unlikely that anyone would use Save As to save a file to
Temporary Internet Files.
