temp internet file sizing

I'm running DSL broadband internet access.

For whatever reason, my Temporary Internet Files Folder setting is 1221mb.

I've been told that, because I'm running broadband, that particular setting
should be down around 10mb.

Does the 10mb sound right? The reason I ask is because that's a seemingly
drastic change.

Default setting for TIF is based on a percent. With larger hard drives, the
space set aside is usually much more than is needed. 10MB while it sounds
drastic is okay for general browsing. Personally, I keep mine at 200MB for
no reason other than "because."

Hi, RB.

That's a question that doesn't get asked here often. The "best" setting
probably varies depending on how YOU use the Internet, and on your hardware.
How big is your HD, how much RAM do you have, etc.

With ADSL, my 512 GB computer with many GB of HD space available has the TIF
set for 500 MB, but I don't recall how I decided on that number. You might
try 10 MB and see if you notice any bottlenecks, especially when returning
to a web page.

One change that I made when I got ADSL was in IE's Tools | Internet
Options... | Advanced, under Security, check Empty TIF when browser is
closed. This way, I start with empty TIF each time I go online; ADSL can
re-download most pages as quickly as they could be retrieved from cache,
anyhow, and I know I'm always looking at the most current page.
