I was told to empty this folder by running %temp% and deleting the contents.
It used to be easy but now many items cannot be removed as the prompt warns.
Is it good to do what am I am doing and is it safe? I am afraid that an item
may be deleted regardless of the warning.
Perhaps checking the box in msie, re: disk space is a safer way to go.
Thank you

Adding to Ben advice, you can be selective in cleaing your TIF/Temp. If you
have passwords/forms/user name/websites cookies you want to keep you can
elect to exclude them from removal.
Download this tool:
http://www.ccleaner.com
Please read the help file on how to use, you can exclude which pre-mentioned
a above from the cleaning or another cleaning tool called ATF from here small
and light:

The system temp folder contains temp files, these are generally files
created when you install / update apps, or those created when you open
certain apps, or simply run win.
They are safe to remove, those that give an error are simply temp sys/app
files that are in use. They should be removed, auto cleaned up, when you
close the app, or shutdown win, but often they are not
Running System Clean up also removes the temp files

Hi Grampy , why not d/l ccleaner ; after it runs , it brings up a
screen to let you know what it`s going to clean . You can then decide
what you want to do - you can uncheck anything you`re not sure of
before it cleans .

1- should I keep a check in the disk clean up box?
2-under settings, should iI check 'every time I visit a page' or 'everytime
I start explorer'?
Thank you

Where is system cleanup? I have been to performance and maint > the panel
with boxes like free up disk space temp files etc. Is that what you are
referring to?
