Are any files stored in the C:\Documents and
Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temp folder safe to
delete? I'm guessing they're just left over from various
installations, but could any of them still be needed? I'm
just asking because they're taking up about 600MB, so
obviously I'd rather delete them if they're not
important. Thanks.

yes you can safely deleate them they stay there to load
faster if you ever revisit the sites that are stored
there.there good if you have dialup or a relly slow
connection ,you can adjust the settings for this by
opening your--internet explorer-- tools--internet options-
-settings--either move the slider or type in a # between
20 MB. to 80 MB. would be good.your settings at 600MB.
thats quit high for me I like mine at 50Mb.

This answer isn't even close to correct. The temp folder George asked about
contain temp files used by windows applications. Internet explorer uses its
own temp directories for caches & cookies. > 99% of the time you can delete
the C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temp folder without
harm. However, if you've just recently installed a new app or update to an
app or driver, first reboot, then go to the temp folder and then delete the
file(s). This is because a) occasionally a file will remain in memory, and
even though you think you've closed all open apps, one still retains write
privileges to it. b) Also occasionally, as mentioned about recent installs,
some files will remain in the temp directory and are scheduled to be
installed during the boot process following the forced reboot. If you wipe
the temp directory, you will then have problems with the just installed app
because not all new files will have been properly installed.
